Special Paper Set

During the Christmas period we will be releasing a special set of papers based on a Rennie Mackintosh theme.

This set wont be available on the site like our other papers but all members of or mailing list will be sent a link to download the whole set in one zipped file. We are asking people nicely NOT to share this set with others as it is just meant to be a "thank you" to our members. The set will include:

  • Backing Papers
  • Inserts
  • Pyramid Papers
  • Frames/borders
  • Page Curls
  • Decoupage
Plus lots more! We hope you like the set (when it arrives) and we shall look forward to seeing some of your cards based on them.

If you are not yet a member of our mailing list you can join it here.

Another free image

Here's another free image to share with your friends. We are trying to use Christmas as an opportunity to encourage even more people to hand make their cards.

Please feel free to take this image and share it on your own blog or Facebook, twitter, forums etc.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

Please feel free to repost this image where it will be seen by paper crafters and others who may be interested in taking it up. Lets see if we can reclaim at least a bit of Christmas as a time for crafting and giving personalised cards rather than the impersonal mass produced ones.

New Site Section... Topic

As you may know we are continually trying to find different ways of classifying our papers. We now have over 100,000 free papers on the site and our biggest worry is that people wont find the paper they need even though they're there!

To help with this we are starting a whole new section which will concentrate on topics rather than styles of papers. To give an example the first topic page covers sport. We have 1,000s of free sport based papers covering such things as football, cricket, tennis, skateboarding and lots more.

The page lists all of the papers we have which deal with different sports.  The papers are listed from all over the site, from the Backing Papers section, the Decoupage Section, Cross Stitch, digi stamps etc etc. Sometimes it is quite difficult to classify a papers or sometimes it fits into more than one topic. The "Horses" papers go just as well in the the Sport section (especially as some of the papers show horse jumping) as in the animals section.

Future topics we intend to cover do include Animals as well as Music, Transport etc and we'd love to hear from anyone who has any more suggestions.

p.s. This topic section is intended to compliment the "Special Days" and "Special Events" section we already have so we wont be covering topics like Birthdays, Christmas etc which are already covered in there.

New Forum, Gallery, Projects and Blogs

I really don't post on here as often as I should but we are remarkably busy with the sites. At the moment the main object is to add new Forum, Gallery, Projects and Blog sections to the main Free Craft Downloads site. As soon as that is done we shall see about updating this blog a little bit more (although there is still a lot more work in the pipeline!)

Home Made Valentine Days Card

There is something extra special abut a home made Valentines Day Card. Maybe its because you have taken time and care to make it. Lets face it, anyone can pop into a Card Shop or the local news agents and buy a cards but not everyone is willing to take the time to make one themselves.

Actually I've always though about cards that way. I can look in the draw of my desk and find a card scribbled by of of my children aged two but I can't find a shop bought one, not even one of the expensive ones!

Well over on Free Craft Downloads there are plenty of downloads to help you make a great personalised card, and you will find two examples over on Janets Blog.

Each of these use papers, templates and images from Free Craft Downloads. You will find everything listed on our special Valentines Day Page. Why not try one of the "pop out" heart templates and/or a cupid insert.

Also don't forget our Backing Paper Builder. You can choose either a plain background or one of the special valentines day ones and add a personal message and/or name.

Whatever type of card you choose to make I'm certain that being home made will make it extra special for the receiver.

Craft Calendar

As you will probably already know one of our "sister sites" is Craft Calendar, a site with information about Craft Fairs, Craft Material Shows, Craft Courses and other craft events in the UK. Over the last week we have complete updated the software behind this site, the new version is faster than the old and the maps are more accurate.

One of the great features is the sites ability to share its information. If you have a site or a blog and would like to provide your visitors with the latest information then just visit this link:
http://www.craftcalendar.co.uk/craftfairs/index.php?com=tools&t=2 . Here you will find are small bit of code which you can paste onto your site, or if you have a blog, into an html widget. There are a couple of simple "parameters" which you can alter if you wish but it will just work after a straight forward paste.

You can see an example of what this code produces on the left.

We hope you like Craft Calendar and find it useful.
